The Foundation for Human Enrichment would like to take this opportunity to wish our entire Somatic Experiencing community a glorious holiday. The FHE Board of Directors has hired Dr. Jane Hansberry to be its new executive director. Dr. Hansberry has an extensive background in nonprofit management in the areas of women's issues, therapeutic and mainstream recreation, and arts and culture. Her research interests have focused on the economic impact of the nonprofit sector and the impact of collaboration on organizational effectiveness.

Most recently Dr. Hansberry has taught at the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado. Dr. Hansberry will begin her position with the Foundation on January 2, 2007.




Dr. Hansberry's areas of research include the economic impact of the nonprofit sector, nonprofit and public sector governance and organizational development, regional cultural asset districts, and the facilitation of collaboration. Her dissertation focused on the effects of collaboration on organizational performance. She is currently teaching at the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado at Denver, and consults in the areas of collaboration and strategic management. Prior to her doctoral studies Hansberry served from 1990-1999 as the District Administrator for the metropolitan Denver Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

Dr. Hansberry worked in local government and human services in rural Colorado in the 1980's. She was the founding executive director of a women's resource center in rural Colorado and was a founder of services to victims and survivors of domestic abuse. From 1983-1987 Hansberry served as the General Manager of the Fraser Valley Metro Recreation District in Winter Park, CO and in that capacity was a member of the management team that built Pole Creek Golf Course. In addition to her general management duties she oversaw the development of children's and adult recreation programs.

Dr. Hansberry has served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees, including Denver's Rape Awareness and Assistance Program; Denver Comprehensive Plan 2000; Denver Schools Budget Advisory Committee; Denver Metro Convention and Visitor's Bureau. She has been involved in developing ski racing programs for skiers with disabilities, and has been involved with Winter Park's National Sports Center for the Disabled as a disabled athlete and instructor. She currently serves on the Summer Scholars Board of Directors and East High School's A+ Angels Mentor Program. Dr. Hansberry has a Master's of Public Administration from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor's of Science in Economics from the University of Massachusetts. She and her husband Mike Wilson live in Denver's West City Park neighborhood.

First International Annual Somatic Experiencing Conference

We are very pleased to announce that the First SE® conference is scheduled to take place October 24 - 26, 2007 at The Claremont Resort & Spa in Berkeley, CA. Although the complete list of presenters is not yet available, we’re excited to announce that Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen Porges and Pia Mellody will be guest speakers at the event.
