Dear Colleagues,

We hope that you and yours are well and thriving in what still feels like the New Year. Here at FHE we are working on many projects that we will be unveiling in the next months. Meanwhile there is good news to report on many fronts.

Our congratulations to FHE faculty, Canadians Berns Galloway; Dea Hamanishi; Linda Stelte and Louise Tatoosh. Our thanks too, to David de Rosenroll, FHE faculty member who served as mentor for Berns, Dea, Linda and Louise, each of whom developed an intensive individual learning plan for their faculty development process. We look forward to working with the Canadian team on developing new markets and on developing new ways to reach out to ongoing markets. read more

SE Reseach News

FHE RESEARCH PROGRAM NEWS
Submitted by Laurie Leitch, PhD, FHE Director of Research 2/08

L.Leitch@comcast.net

FHE is actively engaged in several research endeavors:
  1. The Vets project. This project is in Phase One which involves either holding focus groups for vets or conducting telephone interviews with vets. The project is focused on the post-deployment adjustment of Iraqi and Afghan vets. It does not focus on combat experience. Many thanks to Bhanu Harrison and Daniel Bruce in New Mexico, Julie deSanto in California, Ruth Leibowitz in Oregon, and Bruce Gottleib in Denver for their involvement with Phase One. Phase two will be an SE treatment program. We plan to conduct the treatment program in several sites (funding permitted). Please let Laurie know if you know vets who would be willing to be interviewed for Phase One (two 1-hour interviews) or if you know of a possible site for the treatment study. I have received emails from several SEPs thus far about VA site possibilities.

  2. The Domestic Violence Project. It has been extremely gratifying to hear from 12 possible sites around the US and Canada of their possible interest in being a site for a study of SE and domestic violence. We are currently writing a proposal for NIH (thanks to Jean Schumaker for her invaluable help!) and plan to also submit a proposal to a national foundation. Many, many thanks to those of you who responded to my earlier email. It is thrilling to see how many want to help build the evidence base for SE!

  3. Case Studies. SE students and faculty are encouraged to write case studies of SE treatment and submit them for publication. A case study protocol is posted on the FHE Research Program website. It offers a format for writing up a single case study. It also has a suggested consent form, journals that publish case studies, and references for 2 articles (not SE) that are clinical case studies that can be referred to as examples. Please consider writing a case study. You do not have to be a researcher or do any statistical analysis to write a good case study. I can help with questions if you plan to write one. This is one way we can increase SE's visibility in the clinical community that extends beyond somatic practitioners.
