From the Board Chair (continued)

We continue to evolve as an organization and as a Board of Directors. It is with sadness, however, that I report to you that Perry Lovelace has resigned from our Board of Directors. Perry's business acumen and experience was a great asset and we thank him for his contributions and service to the Foundation. As the same time I am happy to share with you that Nancy Thoennes, Ph.D., has joined the FHE Board of Directors. Dr. Thoennes has a long and deep background in research and writing with pressing social issues. When asked what interests her most about serving on the FHE Board of Directors, Dr. Thoennes responded "For the past 25-plus years I have conducted research on families in the public health and court systems due to child abuse and neglect and/or intimate partner violence. Often the families' attempts to cope with the stresses in their lives, particularly through the use of drugs and alcohol, serve to precipitate more violence. I believe therapists, service agencies, and courts need to utilize all the tools available to help these families find a way out of crisis."

On January 2 Dr. Jane Hansberry joined our permanent staff as our Executive Director. Dr. Hansberry had consulted in the area of organizational development to the Foundation and we are delighted to welcome her to our strong staff team. Dr. Hansberry's background in nonprofit and public sector management are well poised for taking the FHE into its next phase of organizational and programmatic development.

One of Dr. Hansberry's earliest priorities is to assist the Board with development of our strategic vision. Together we will set a course that will ensure the wisest use of our resources and talents in furtherance of our mission for this year and many more.

With all best wishes,

Doug Matthews,
