Standard of Care and Somatic Experiencing
The following resources are designed for psychotherapists and others in the mental health profession, but may be adapted for other professions as needed. With the help of Dr. Ofer Zur, The Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute has prepared some guidelines and resources for SE practitioners, to assist them in staying within the standard of care as they incorporate SE into their practices. An article on Standard of Care is available, free of charge, at http://www.zurinstitute.com/standardofcaretherapy.html
The following four elements are needed to support appropriate standard of care:
- A Standard Informed Consent of Psychotherapy/Counseling for your practice. If you do not already have a consent form, Standard Informed Consent and other forms are available for purchase at: http://www.zurinstitute.com/forms.html
- A SE Informed Consent Form. A sample consent form is provided here, free of charge, SE Informed Consent
- A treatment plan. If you do not already have information on how to prepare a treatment plan, you may purchase it at
http://www.zurinstitute.com/catalog.html#4
- Notes/record of ongoing treatment that supports the treatment plan, including notes regarding the use of touch if used (it’s purpose in support of the treatment plan). Further information on guidelines for recordkeeping are available, free of charge, at: http://www.zurinstitute.com/recordkeepingguidelines.html
