Professional Description: Ariel Giarretto, LMFT, CMT has been specializing in the treatment of both shock and developmental trauma since 1993. She practices in the US, Europe and Canada as a somatic psychotherapist, an SEŽ teacher and consultant. For 11 years she was on staff at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur as a workshop and group leader, a private counselor and bodyworker. She trained as a First Responder and was part of an emergency medical response team in the Ventana Wilderness and is particularly interested in developing programs for disaster response. She has offered trainings to the Trauma Center at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on secondary traumatization and patient PTSD prevention. Prior to this she was a homebirth advocate, working for an alternative birthing center as a "doula" and childbirth educator. She has extended training in pre & peri-natal trauma, and her trainings include awareness of SEŽ as a deeply relational model, integrating how early development and attachment form the nervous system. She has a private practice in the Bay Area, and frequently utilizes therapeutic touch and SEŽ bodywork in her sessions.
