What if I cannot attend and must miss a scheduled class?
If you cannot make up the class at another location, The Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute allows for one video substitution in the Beginning year and one video substitution in the Intermediate year. The price for the video substitution is the same as tuition, $750. We allow this because in order to proceed to the next module in the sequence, you must first complete the missed module. However, since this is a very experiential training, the SE Trauma Institute STRONGLY recommends that all training modules be done in person. In order to receive credit for taking a training on DVD, an evaluation must be completed and returned to the SE Trauma Institute. Not all CE credits apply to DVD modules. Please note that the SE Trauma Institute does not allow video substitution for either module in the Advanced year. If at any time you wish to take the class in person after viewing the DVD set, you can do so at half price.
Can participants change training locations?
Participants are STRONGLY encouraged to enroll and stay with one group. This helps to build a sense of containment and trust within the group, which can be very supportive when learning about trauma work. Staying with one group also aids instructors and assistants in tracking a participant's progress through the training. If you need to request a change to a new location, you MUST receive prior approval from the primary instructor, the new instructor, and the Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute™. This should be done by email and both local coordinators should also be included.
Can participants share the cost of videos?
For session tapes (which are the only tapes we have that are rentals) this is allowable. For classes, this is not allowed! The cost of the program is consistent for each participant, whether taking live or on video.
How long are the classes each day?
Each Beginning & Intermediate class consists of 24 hours of course instruction time. Advanced courses consist of 36 hours of course instruction time. Training times vary from location to location, depending on training facility availability. Typical class times are 10 a.m.-6p.m., with sufficient time for lunch. Please check the training schedule for your class time.
What if I have to miss a portion (hour to day) of the class?
If a participant is enrolled in a class and misses a portion of the class, it will be the participant's responsibility to obtain notes from classmates or purchase the full set of DVD's from The SE Trauma Institute for $50. The SE Trauma Institute will provide you with a DVD of the recent professionally taped course.
Where are the trainings?
Trainings are typically held in hotels, retreat centers, community centers, adult education centers or university continuing education facilities. On some occasions, professionals offer their offices or studios as training centers. The Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute reserves only ADA compliant facilities, or centers that offer easy accessibility for all participants.
Those who travel to the US to take classes are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel Visas and documents.
Do Class Demonstrations count toward credit?
NO. Participants cannot receive credit toward their requirements for demos done in class. This is an invaluable part of our training program and participants are encouraged to participate in demonstrations, but they cannot count toward meeting the personal session hour requirements.
How are credits granted if two or more participants are working with the exact same client(s) in the case consult?
Participants must receive case consultations from an approved consultation provider. Participants will receive 1 hour of credit for a 3 hour group case consultation including 3 or more persons. For individual case consultations, a 1 hour consult constitutes 1 hour of credit.
