SE Level: Somatic Experiencing Practitioner & FHE Faculty Member
Professional Title: Somatic Psychotherapist, Physical Therapist, Integrative Bodyworker
Professional Description: Dave Berger, LCMHC, PT, MA has practiced physical therapy and psychotherapy for 29 years, uniquely integrating his practices for clients with physical pain and movement problems, trauma histories, back and neck problems, PTSD, and anxiety disorders. He uses a diverse array of traditional and complementary healing practices. Dave is a certified Somatic Experiencing practitioner, consultant and teacher of the long-term training. In addition to teaching the Somatic Experiencing training Dave also teaches a post-advanced training in Bodywork and Touch for Trauma Therapists. He is also a Rosen Method Bodywork practitioner.
Dave is a mental health counselor (New Hampshire), marriage and family therapist (California) and physical therapist. He uses his training in verbal and somatic/body oriented psychotherapy in his work with clients. He understands the relationship between an individual's challenges, their family system dynamics, and cultural issues. In therapy a client may expect to talk, use body awareness and relaxation, trauma renegotiation, hands-on (when appropriate) interventions, movement and exercise to help in their healing process.
As a physical therapist Dave is trained in a number of manual techniques including craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, joint mobilization, and muscle energy technique. He uses exercise, movement education, relaxation and physical therapy modalities, blending them with aspects of several somatics approaches such as Rosen Method, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Authentic Movement.
Dave received his bachelor's degree in Somatopsychology from the University of Maryland. His graduate degrees are from Stanford University in Physical Therapy and California Institute of Integral Studies in Psychology with a specialty in Somatic Psychology. He has been a professor in physical therapy and has been adjunct faculty at several colleges. Dave is on faculty with the Foundation for Human Enrichment.
Dave enjoys spending time with his family bicycling, hiking, traveling, cross-country skiing, playing soccer and kayaking.
