Somatic Experiencing® (SE) Community:

Trauma Outreach is reaching out again The FHE-Trauma Outreach Program (TOP) has received an invitation from Catholic Charities, USA to work in Baton Rouge and New Orleans with their staff and Katrina/ Rita hurricane survivors. This week, three members from the TOP committee will be traveling to Louisiana to do a Needs Assessment, to formulate our plan of action, and to work out the details. Our response will be dependent on our staffing and funding.

Our challenge

Hurricane Katrina has confronted us with an unprecedented challenge. Our greatness and goodness as a nation will be demonstrated by how we respond to the suffering of our peoples. At the deepest hurt of this heart wrenching wound is the emotional pain of the numbers of children and babies separated from their parents and families. In addition, there are the hundreds of thousands of families staying with strangers, in new communities and in new schools. Many of these people spent days waiting for help and witnessed many tragic scenes. They have lost everything. The stress they are undergoing could have life long consequences. Please help us reach out to them.

Please volunteer

Please consider volunteering to share your skills in a disaster setting. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a healing community in a time of great need! So far, we have 1 volunteer from North Carolina, 1 from Kansas, 1 from New Jersey, 2 from Massachusetts, 2 from Canada, 3 from the Bay area, 5 from LA, and 15 volunteers from New Mexico. We need twice this many to rotate teams in for the rest of the year. If you are interested in volunteering for TOP and have not filled out an application, please send your request by email to TOP@traumahealing.com.

What else you can do to help

In order to meet the needs to respond to this situation, we are also asking for your assistance in the following ways:
  1. Spread the word: Please send this letter to your friends and family to tell them what your organization is doing for others and refer them to our website @ www.traumahealing.com - and click on ‘TOP.
  2. Monetary assistance: Make donations directly to the FHE and specify ‘TOP’. To make your TOP donation on-line, go to www.traumahealing.com or mail your contribution to FHE-TOP, 7102 La Vista Place, Suite 200, Niwot, CO 80503.
  3. Direct Communication: For all questions and inquires regarding the Trauma Outreach Program, email directly to TOP@traumahealing.com and please do not call the FHE office.
We will keep you updated about our efforts by email or you can also check the www.traumahealing.com website for up-to-date information.
Thank you for interest and support!
